There are many documented benefits of laser liposuction. Many of them have to do with the great reduction in risks compared to traditional methods of liposuction surgery. The technique works but guiding a laser through a fiber optic which heats up the area causing the fatty tissue to literally melt. The liquefied substance is then sucked up by a ‘cannula’ which is the tube used to remove fat from the body. The smaller incision also means a lowered risk of infection to the open wound.

Laser liposuction also has some very particular side effects that pertain only to this technique. The heat causes collage under the skin to contract which produces tighter skin. These skin tightening lasers are similar to other skin treatments like laser skin tightening procedures. This only impacts patients with elasticity in their skin to perform the contraction. Others might want a lift procedure to maximize the results after the liposuction surgery.

Another much less desirable side effect of using the laser is the accidental burning of the skin. This is a very rare occurrence but always a possibility when working with something that powerful. It happens when the laser is left in one area for too long and the heat causes a burn to the tissue in the area. That is why it is important to find a properly certified plastic surgeon perform the procedure so little issues like this can be avoided.
