The graduation from modeling to acting – the road to stardom
Beginning with Juhi Chawla to numerous actors nowadays the road to stardom becomes a bit easy when you graduate from being a model to being an actor. Well that is not to say that it is easy but definitely the number of steps needed to become an actor get less as people and the industry know you.
The most recent example of that has been Deepika Padukone who was a model and now has all the big producers of Bollywood queuing up to sign her. The other famous ones to quit the modeling line and joining the acting bandwagon were John Abraham, Bipasha Basu and Preity Zinta. Dino Morea also is from the same school. However his acting career is nowhere near that of John Abraham or Arjun Rampal.
Models are often thought as having a deadpan expression and they are generally not preferred as actors. John Abraham to an extent has proved that to be wrong. Preity Zinta and Bipasha Basu have also proved that wrong. John Abraham for one took acting classes from Kishore Namit Kapoor.
In an industry which has all the sons and daughters of the famous families of Bollywood like the Kapoors, Bachans, Chopras and the Deol the famous models can atleast get some initial movie offers. Then it is really up to them to show their acting skills.
The reason why the models go for the acting is two fold. One is the fact that actors get much wider recognition than the models and of course along with that comes money. Secondly, the career of a model is really short. Even if you are a super model you can at best be a model for a few years as your face and body will start showing signs of aging. New crop of youngsters are always a threat. In movies at least you can work for longer number of years and then can easily graduate to character based roles once you are past your prime.
The new trend – A role reversal
All top actors are now regulars at fashion shows and in fact they have replaced the super models as the prominent faces of the famous fashion designers. Every year at the Lakme Fashion week the Bollywood brigade is there in mass numbers walking the ramp for their designers. Poor super models!! !
